The Clean Power Plan will reduce carbon pollution from power plants, the nation’s largest source, while maintaining energy reliability and affordability. It is the first national standard that addresses cutting carbon from power plants. The rule seeks to incentivize states to divest from conventional power sources and invest in cleaner sources (like natural gas, wind and solar). It also incentivizes energy efficiency as a way to lower a state’s power emissions.
